Brutal Winter = tough year for the locals

Based on the tracks we have deer, rabbits, and squirrels visiting us on a regular basis.

With almost 60 inches of snow so far this year, the locals have had a hard time finding nutrition.  We have been trying to help out on out patio.

The squirrels do seem very appreciative.

Deer at the doorstep.  Like living at the zoo.  Love it!

Snow, Snow, Snow, Arctic Cold, BRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrr

Looks warm in there

After enjoying New Years Day the weather got a bit extreme.  We provided some snacks for our cold furry neighbors.

It snowed over a foot over a couple days.  This snow on roof made big icicles on the sunny side of everyone's houses.

Then it got really cold.  I am amazed that my car thermometer goes that low.

Can you see the deer in the middle of the picture that crashed for the night in our yard.  Temp dropped to -16 that night.  Bet she wished she had a blanket.

The area monster buck came in and picked up some bread.  What a monster.  Looking very healthy

Nice rack

He was able to sniff out the bread buried in the snow.

Had to be well over 200 lab.  Beautiful 10-pointer

Museum of Science and Industry

We spent a day at the Museum of Science and Industry.  The MSI is really great these days.  First we visited the coal mine.  I hadn't been in there for 30+ years.

The Fairy Castle was under renovation.  So all he little parts were on display.

Very cool!

Then we visited the famous german WWII sub, the U-505.

They really have it set up well in a new display room.  Used to be outside.  Now in its own big room along with a bunch of information and artifacts.

Took the tour.  First time I have done this in 20 some years.

It's very well preserved.

They have a great space exploration section.  Alex on the moon.

For the holidays they have xmas trees representing 100 countries.  This one is Thailand.

Alex takes a zap to the heart.

Man made lightening.

They also had a neat exhibit on Disney.  I forgot he was born in Chicago.  Lots of neat memorabilia.  But its definitely more fun to go to Disneyland!
